Many mums experience Diastasis Recti. It occurs when the rectus abdominal muscles (six-pack ab muscles) separate during pregnancy from being stretched.
It can be repaired with specific exercises that help to close the separation.
How to test: See the image below for how to test for it yourself at home. A Physiotherapist or Doctor can confirm if diastasis is present, where it's located and how severe it is.
An abdominal gap wider than 2 centimetres is considered diastasis recti. Diastasis recti is also measured in finger widths, for example, two or three fingers' separation.

Diastasis recti is extremely common in those who are pregnant and during the postpartum period. It affects 60% of women. It mainly resolves itself within eight weeks of delivery. However approximately 40% of those who have diastasis recti still have it six months postpartum. Some women can have it many years after giving birth.

If there is any pain when performing this test at home, please consult your Physiotherapist or Doctor.
